The Holocaust Center of Northern California hosted an exhibit called “Letters,” which showcased letters between a Jewish family in San Francisco and their loved ones trapped in Germany during the rise of the Third Reich. I got the inspiration for the lead image in the design from an unopened letter in the exhibit. The Letter was sent from Germany in 1939, and to this day, the only person to ever read its contents is an employee at the US Postal censorship. My goal in designing the exhibit and its promotional materials was to capture the delicate, personal nature of the artifacts and the turbulent times during which they were written.
